The client

Fathead's style guide

Fathead needed to showoff their professional work producing photoshoots.

Their previous website, created on Wix, was non-responsive, and lacked clarity around what the company offers. They asked me to help them make improvements to the user experience, and to design a portfolio of their work, and their locations scouting.

the problem

As a young company, Fathead is eager to expand their network of clients. A new website with an updated portfolio of work is key to securing the trust of potential new clients in the fashion and retail industry.

opportunity

How can Fathead Productions scale their business and attract new clients?

A chic new design reflecting the insights of careful research.

Before I designed their new site, I presented careful research to the stakeholders. I conducted usability testing interviews on their old site with some of FH's clients, and others who work in a related field. In order to understand the digital landscape of the Production industry, I did a competitive analysis of 7 production company's.

solution

Creative professionals need to see that Fathead can provide a solution to their problem.

After speaking with 5 individuals, I found some important insight into what FH's user base needs when they are engaging with their website.

user research

Clients are looking for a solution to their problem. They want to see the work as soon and easily as possible.
Clients want to feel confident that Fathead has a team who can manage the project.
When it comes to Locations, clients want them to be organized in a way that is easy to navigate, and ask about specific locations.

Learning the industry standards of designing a portfolio

  • Have a clear and concise value proposition to give users clarity instantly
  • Clear Calls to Action guide  the user with recognizable terms
  • Clear Visual Hierarchies guide the user through information
  • Client Lists gives Production Companies credibility

Competitive Feature Analysis

a new landing page

Creatives like Lucas overwhelming want to see examples of Fathead's hard work.

It was clear that Fathead needed to showcase their work. Through talks with my client, and careful research into how other production companies that Fathead admires design their own portfolios, we decided to display a simple grid of images that users can easily scroll through. At the bottom, FH wanted to display their brand collaborations.

Scaling a business by design, designing a business at scale

A sitemap comparing Fathead's information architecture before and after my design intervention shows the expansive direction that Fathead is heading. With the information architecture, my desire was to create a framework through which the company could build, and show off their abilities.
